MIDLIFE CRISIS IS real for many. It can suddenly creep up when the fear of aging, getting older and the hormonal roller coaster kicks in. I’ve read and heard about this often. Someone will share their heart-felt story about turning 50 and falling apart and how they’ve turned it around. A tip to note is you don’t have to go there and fall apart, and equally that state can be aligned when you learn about and apply EQ.
Emotional Intelligence or EQ is a feeling or a STATE of awareness. It’s about being aware of and being able to control your emotions for coherent inner communication with yourself and the interplay with others. It’s about being in tune with your feeling state which is the by-product of thought. Stop for a moment and notice how you are feeling right now? Many people don’t have a clue how to describe their feelings.
IQ or Intellectual Intelligence was once viewed as the key ability to achieve and gain status with; however, EQ has taken the forefront as the “new smart awareness” to develop and apply. In fact, aligning IQ and EQ is the perfect goal.
A key aspect to note is the mind is powerful and the thoughts create your reality. They activate emotions, and when you are engaging in negative fear or stress related thoughts, stress hormones or chemicals, such as adrenaline and cortisol are released into the body. These chemicals lower the immune system and can lead to anxiety and adverse health conditions like depression, high blood pressure, hormonal imbalance, low self-esteem, a clouded mind, rapid aging and you being older than your biological clock.
When negative thoughts are engaged, anger or frustration can be expressed which can turn into negative inner communication with oneself – or result in two people reacting negatively and destructively towards each other. This negative thinking translates to tension in the body, including the neck, shoulders and headaches or a sore back, and feeling emotionally and psychologically unfulfilled. These are the type of feelings that can activate a Midlife Crisis.
When you are in a state of positive EQ in your ”Vitality Zone” or “in the present moment” you are living life from the inside out. If you find yourself at a crossroads in life or on the receiving end of a negative stressful scenario – if you can activate your EQ you will reduce stress and be able to sustain your empowerment, youthfulness, energy, motivation and positivity. Here are some powerful steps that can be applied:
- Stop and breathe – positively and slowly, in and out of the nose, and you will calm your nervous system by releasing endorphins, serotonin, oxytocin, to reset your emotional environment.
- Acknowledge what is going on (whether you like it or not) then, accept and let go of negative reactions
- Reframe the situation, and depending what it is, you may mentally say “calm, calm “, “All is well”, “I am balanced”, “I feel secure“, or ”reveal to me what I need to be doing“. This, combined with breathing will reset you.
Remember You CHOOSE with AWARENESS
When you are calm and coherent and aware, it breaks old reactionary patterns and creates more personal inner emotional and personal control in the way you communicate at all levels. In this awareness state you sustain your energy, mental clarity, good health, positivity and stay rejuvenated, looking and feeling younger, hence turning back your biological clock. This happens when you no longer take on board negative projections from others or society. In fact, with that awareness solutions come which assists in the way you communicate. This helps with positive decision-making in the present and the future, and the ability to build better relationships for greater success. As you gain a deeper understanding of your EQ and where others are coming from life flow will follow.
Applying these EQ skills will activate positive personal self-care awareness, clarity of mind, intuition, positive relationships, positive self-esteem, and healthy lifestyle choices to excel personally.
